Consultant Vascular & Interventional Radiologist
Understanding the problem is central to successful treatment. I take time to explain findings clearly, discuss options honestly, and ensure every patient feels fully informed and confident before we proceed.
Biography
Prof Steve Goode is a Consultant Vascular and Interventional Radiologist with over 20 years of experience treating venous disease using modern, minimally invasive, ultrasound-guided techniques. He trained in medicine at the University of Leicester and completed a PhD in vascular surgery at the University of Nottingham — research that contributed directly to the evidence base now guiding how varicose veins are treated across the UK.
He undertook advanced fellowship training in Interventional Radiology and has spent his consultant career working at the forefront of minimally invasive vascular treatment within the NHS at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust — one of the UK’s leading tertiary vascular centres.
Alongside his private practice at Sheffield Vein Clinic, Prof Goode continues his NHS consultant work, which includes complex arterial and venous interventions, emergency vascular procedures, and — uniquely — percutaneous aortic arch repair. This breadth of high-level clinical experience underpins the meticulous, reassuring approach he brings to every vein clinic appointment.
Private Practice Philosophy
Prof Goode specialises in the assessment and treatment of varicose veins, focusing on relieving symptoms, improving appearance, and helping patients return quickly to normal life. His approach is calm, transparent, and consultant-led from first consultation through to follow-up. He will always tell patients honestly when treatment is not in their best interest. Clinical integrity — not volume — defines the practice at Sheffield Vein Clinic.
Professional Journey
Clinical Expertise
Comprehensive assessment and treatment of varicose veins of all sizes and complexities, including recurrent or previously treated cases other clinics decline to take on.
Microsclerotherapy and Thermavein for thread veins on the legs and face. Tailored to each patient's vein pattern, skin type, and aesthetic goals.
Specialist diagnosis and embolisation treatment for pelvic congestion syndrome — a frequently missed cause of chronic pelvic pain and lower limb varicosities.
Ultrasound-guided assessment of superficial and deep venous reflux, with expert interpretation and clinical management tailored to the individual patient.
Many patients have been told their veins are too complex, or have had previous procedures that failed. Prof Goode specialises in exactly these cases.
Management of leg pain, heaviness, swelling, skin changes, and venous ulceration from venous insufficiency — including post-thrombotic syndrome.
Research & Academia
Prof Goode’s treatments are grounded in the same clinical evidence he has helped to generate. His research has directly informed NICE guidance on varicose vein treatment in the UK.
He is an invited faculty member at CIRSE, where he teaches European colleagues endovenous vein treatment techniques, and holds an active appointment as Professor at Sheffield Hallam University, working alongside Professor Charmaine Childs.
Patient Feedback
“Excellent results. My lifestyle is now pain free and not one varicose vein to be seen. Prof Goode explained everything clearly and carried out a very detailed examination.”
“I'd put off treatment for years. After laser and foam treatment, the results are absolutely amazing — I've worn shorts in public for the first time in 20 years.”
“From first contact through to follow-up, the care was of the highest professional standard. I was particularly grateful for the empathy and understanding shown.”
“The whole team were kind, reassuring and highly professional. If you have any doubts about where to go, this is your place.”
