Assessment and, where appropriate, treatment both take place at our clinic on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield — the service is consultant-led throughout, meaning Professor Stephen Goode, a Consultant Interventional Radiologist, personally carries out your duplex ultrasound scan and treatment planning rather than delegating this to a technician. Your first visit is a consultation with Professor Stephen Goode, including a full clinical assessment and, where clinically indicated, a duplex ultrasound scan performed by him personally — not delegated to a sonographer. This scan maps exactly where reflux is occurring in your veins. Together, you’ll discuss the treatment options relevant to your individual scan findings, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions before any decision is made. There’s no pressure to proceed with treatment at this stage.
Depending on what your duplex ultrasound shows, your treatment plan may include endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) to close an incompetent vein, foam sclerotherapy for smaller varicose tributaries, or microsclerotherapy for thread veins. Routes into Sheffield from the Peak District and North Derbyshire vary considerably depending on where you’re travelling from — common approaches include the A625 and A6187 from the west, or the A61 corridor from the Chesterfield/Dronfield direction to the south. Given the more rural roads involved, we’d particularly recommend checking live traffic and weather conditions before you set off, especially in winter. Once you reach Sheffield, Ecclesall Road is a short distance from the city centre, with on-street parking available near the clinic subject to current signage.

Do you offer anything closer to the Peak District itself?
No — Sheffield Vein Clinic has a single clinic location on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield, on the edge of the Peak District. We don't have satellite clinics further into North Derbyshire.
What does the initial consultation include?
Your first visit is a 45-minute consultation with Professor Stephen Goode, including a full duplex ultrasound scan performed by him personally, and a written treatment plan if treatment is appropriate. This is £195.
Can I drive myself home after treatment?
Most patients are able to drive themselves home after EVLA or foam sclerotherapy, as these are performed under local anaesthetic. We'll confirm what's appropriate for you individually before your treatment visit.
I'm not sure whether my varicose veins need treatment at all — should I still book a consultation?
That's exactly what the consultation is for. Not every varicose vein needs treating, and a duplex ultrasound scan is the only reliable way to know whether there's underlying reflux that would benefit from treatment, or whether monitoring is more appropriate. There's no obligation to proceed with treatment after your assessment.
